Fishing Licence NZ

Fish & Game New Zealand is a government agency responsible for managing and conserving New Zealand's freshwater fish and game bird resources. Its main aim is to ensure that these resources are protected, enhanced, and sustainably managed for the benefit of present and future generations. This involves a range of activities, including regulating and monitoring fishing and hunting practices, conducting scientific research, developing policies and regulations, and engaging with stakeholders such as anglers, hunters, and local communities.

Every person who wishes to go fresh water fishing in New Zealand lakes and rivers must first purchase a fishing licence. The licence fees are primarily charged to cover the cost of managing the fish and the habitat they depend on, ultimately considering future fishing generations to come.
