Explore the magnificent rivers of Queenstown. unReel Fishing is the only fishing charter permitted to operate down the crystal clear fresh waters of the Kawarau River.
Travel down the river on a custom-made jet boat specially designed for river fishing. Here you will experience a mixture of casting off the jet boat and river banks using soft baits or hard body lures.
Your local guide will give a demonstration for first timers – you’ll be reeling in the big ones in no time!
‘Eagle One’ our custom made Platform jet boat will take you down the Kawarau River to the fishing hot spots. ‘Eagle One’ was designed in Canada using the well-known eagle Hull. The Kawarau River is the only river that flows out of Lake Wakatipu. ‘Eagle One’ is in full Maritime NZ safety authority. All safety equipment is on-board and lifejackets are supplied.
Once down the river you will be doing a mixture of spin fishing from the Jet boat as well as from the beach – there may also be times where you are casting while drifting down the river from the Jet boat. You will mainly be catching Brown and Rainbow Trout. We are lucky enough that the River is open all year for Fishing and we are the only Fishing charter able to operate down the Kawarau River.
The Kawarau River has a high volume water flow with slow moving surface, shallow braded sections with deep pools which hold good numbers and trophy sized trout.
The gear is all fully supplied you will be using an eggbeater style Spin Rods with braided line and a fluorocarbon leader with a mixture of either soft plastics, rapalas and spoons.
Trips are minimum 3 hours and leave from the Frankton Marina. Private charters are available upon request.
Let unreel Fishing take you somewhere you’ve never dreamed of! On-board your very own bespoke fishing boat, Kiwi Explorer, depart Queenstown Bay with your local guide and take to the crystal clear waters of Lake Wakatipu.
Surrounded by breath-taking scenery made famous by the Lord of the Rings, you and up to 7 of your mates can fish for Salmon, Rainbow and Brown trout 365 days a year.
The ‘Kiwi Explorer’ is a 6.5 metre Kiwikraft specially design for the Lake and is registered under the Maritime Safety authority it carries a complete range of safety equipment.
Once onboard we travel a short distance (depending on trip length) across lake Wakatipu. The method we use on the Lake is trolling using Downriggers, lead core line and surface lines. All fishing gear is provided on board. Lake Wakatipu is 399m at its deepest point this is why we use the downriggers to get down deeper to where the fish are.
Trolling is a relaxed style of fishing - which leaves you able to take in the breath-taking scenery.
